Done for The crafting jam II 08Mar2026 – 08April2026 Makes diamonds renewable via a two step process: In the first step, a Basilisk Egg [​a renamed & retextured chicken_spawn_egg] is crafted from a block of coal surounded by eight blocks of iron. In the second step , the Basilisk Egg is blasted [​smelted in a Blast Furnace] to produce a diamond – this takes 13 minutes. The Basilisk Egg can still be thrown to produce a chicken, but the cost is intended to be high enough compared to a series of standard survial eggs that the item not be disruptive. The Basilisk Egg texture and renaming require the Expensive Diamonds RESOURCEpack . N.B. Unfortunately, spawn eggs were not given individual textures until 1.21.5 , so the new Basilisk Egg sprite will not appear when used in earlier versions. The pack functions properly (including the renaming), but shows the vanilla chicken_spawn_egg.
