Download Gain XP, Gain Hearts — free Minecraft data pack. Created by Miimimiimi. Tagged challenge, functions, game mechanic, health. Drop into your world’s datapacks folder when the archive is available.

Creator notes
Try my new survival mechanic! You start with only 4 hearts. Every 5 levels your max health increases until you have a total of 10 hearts. XP is an underutilized aspect of Minecraft. This data pack makes it more rewarding with a very simple change! The more experienced and active you are, the stronger you are. Dying resets your hearts back to 4. Normally death isn't much of a threat, but with this data pack, players will want to avoid dying. It could be interesting on a multiplayer server. Don't worry: losing XP levels doesn't make you lose health, so repairing and enchanting aren't affected.
